My legacy...

"My legacy is going to be my kids.."

Erma Bombeck

I forget where I saw this quote? It really impressed me though; it's simple, but very true. My profession, my possessions, my accomplishments....none of these things will leave quite an impression in the world as my children will one day. Being a mother is & will definately be the most rewarding, challenging, wonderful, hardest, amazing, and stressful duty I will ever perform. I strive to be able to raise my kids to be the best they can be, to do anything they want to do, & to be compassionate and caring for others. Sure, I'm going to "mess up" sometimes...but I am excited for the future with Zeke (and future child/ren) so I can have the opportunity to mess up and fix things and strive to instill the morals, principles, and attitude in him that I feel will not only benefit him but benefit others as well.

Twas a dingy old laundry room...

Ok, so our house was built in 1960 so there are parts of it *cough* paneling *cough* that are seriously outdated. We've made a decent amount of progess in updating it and I'm sad now that I haven't actually kept up with before and after pictures more until now. Almost the entire house has had a new paint job (or three...), we've refinished the this-could-possibly-be-a-spare-bedroom that was seriously lacking any bedroom cozy qualities, new hardware on the kitchen cabinets, couple new light fixtures, a complete landscape job, misc. knick knacks things here and there etc.

To the point: There is the laundry/utility room. It's bland, it's dirty, it's gray concrete floor. It's like my least favorite room in the entire house. Or at least it was.

Before:

See what I mean? It was less than stellar. So some self-stick tile (not as easy as you would think it is), a can of recycled paint that used to be in my living room before I decided it was overpowering, and a small can of "Muted Ebony" paint for the stairs that can't be tiled turned that into...

THIS:

I love. I really like gray & blue together and the pop of life it gives the room.

Seriously, I could spend more money in Lowe's in one trip that I could spend on clothes in 5 years.

Latest Do-seys

So, I've been feeling rather crafty lately. It must be the spare time I have since I'm temporarily laid off. Sure, Zeke keeps me busy during the day but I have lots of time at night to play. ;)

So, I saw this old buffet table at Goodwill a few weeks ago. It was beat up, out of date, & not the best lookin item; but I was still attracted to it. So I bought it for a whopping $50.

Tools for renovation:
  • 80 grit sandpaper
  • quart of robin's egg blue similar paint, brush, small roller
  • black spray paint
  • black acrylic paint (I used one I already had for kid's crafts)
  • small brush
  • screwdriver
I removed the doors, drawers, handles, & hinges - cleaned it up - sanded down the majority of the surface areas - and applied 2 coats of the blue paint. (Est. time about 4 hours) Then used the very small brush to paint the inlay carvings black (and also touched up necessary spots with the blue paint). I chose to spray paint the original handles & hinges instead of replacing them because I liked their "antique" look. AND..

As an added touch up, I'm laying fabric from Hobby Lobby inside the doors/drawers.

I am extremely happy with the outcome. :D

Next task: laying floor in our dingy laundry room.
