Kitchen Cabinets {revisited}

A few years ago, I painted my kitchen cabinets. (You can see the before before here.)

Wait...3 years ago? Yikes. Where is life going?!

Back on track...

I really just wanted some updated pictures. Since then, we have torn down the backsplash wallpaper & painted over the vinyl tile (which was a horrid horrid swirly mess of 70's blue and faded yellow.) I also finished painting the kitchen a nice soft gray last week.

You can see on the side that we chucked the ceiling fan and got a chandelier. $20 thrift store find which I found retailed brand new at Lowes for $180. Score.

Part of the reasoning behind the green was that
A: the white just didn't look very smooth and had a more obvious painted look (These are old cabinets people)
B: Our floor tiles are a creamy color and there is a whole other side of the kitchen with cabinets so alllll that white just clashed.
C. Our countertops have green flecks that the green cabinet color actually pull out.

I'm still glad that I did this. I have yet to tire of the color. It took our kitchen from the shaggy depths of the 60's to more modern times and was thousands of dollars cheaper than putting new cabinets in.

This gal is still hanging out in the kitchen but hoping for a kitchen table spot makeover right there soon.

In closing, I'll get off track again. My little baby is going to be 4 in a month. *sigh* *sniffle*  Where is time going?!

A life lately post.

I know I've been absent recently. I blame it on winter and the lazy winter doldrums it stirs. Couple that with the fact that life seems to take on a very monotonous pace this time of year and I feel fresh out of new brain juice.

Brain juice? Yikes. It's time for spring already.

We did get some snow actually. At first it was just a little and then it just dumped and we ended up getting around 6-8" which is a lot for around here. We got all classy and used a big Tupperware lid to go sledding. Zeke reminded me that he wouldn't eat the "yellow snow."

At least snow makes winter pretty.

Otherwise, we've been like making legos until I swear my finger tips are bleeding and I'm having thoughts of putting all the tiny pieces in the garbage disposal. And paying $3 for those photo strips at the mall because there isn't much else to do. O yea, I got some new glasses which at first I thought were a terrible idea but they've grown on me. They're a little dorky so they are probably perfect.

And fighting over who gets to be Batman. Or in this case rodeo pirate Batman.

I'll just leave you on that rodeo pirate Batman note.

Resolution #1: Kick that habit.

I'm proud and happy to say that for the first time in 10 years, I haven't smoked a cigarette in almost a week. It may not sound like that big of a deal but I don't remember the last time I went even one day without smoking. My number one resolution this year was to quit smoking (and about every year since I started) and I finally did it!

I wish I could say it was sheer willpower but that I don't possess much of. I have switched over to a "vaporizer". It's pretty much an electronic cigarette shaped like a pen and provides the nicotine by creating a vapor from a liquid solution. No more 400 additives, no more chemicals, no more unhealthy smoke in my body. Yes, there is nicotine but with this, I can immediately get the benefits of quitting smoking while still tapering down my "nicotine fix" by using lower levels of the nicotine solution.

I can already tell the difference when I go to the gym and do cardio. (resolution #2 - finally lose the last 20-30 lbs I've been trying to get off.)

It's a fraction of the cost of smoking (resolution #3 - get back out of debt).

And resolution #4 (well, it should be #1 but ended up as #4 in this post) is to work to consistently find my joy in Christ & love all others the best I can. The better I feel - the more I can do those things! It's nice to see how that all comes around full circle to help me make 2014 a stellar year.

It's a bit late but Happy New Year's ya'll! (<------ accent.="" br="" can="" quit="" southern="" t="" the="">
