An Apple a Day Keep the Doctor Away.

Ok, so I don't grow Apple trees. I do garden though & I love to work in the yard in the evening...picking, pruning, planting, playing. For me, there really is something calming & stress relieving about it. (For Noah, it involves a lot of cussing & sweating.)

This is Snoopy the Peanut Plant.

Zeke loves to be outside, too so sometimes he'll sit in his little seat & play with his toys while pointing out trees every once in awhile and let me work. Sometimes I can just see myself in him.

Then to top off such a nice evening, we get a sunshine rainshower.

Sweet baby trapped inside.

Sweet baby checkup.

Zeke had his 1 year check up today.

May 13, 2010 9 lbs 9 oz  21" long

May 24, 2011 26 lbs 13 oz 32" long

I really can't believe how much he has grown in just one short year physically, mentally, socially, & emotionally. He amazes me. :) I am blessed beyond measure to have such a happy & healthy baby.

I will never be able to express how thankful I am to God for giving me such a sweet, happy, all-over-wonderful child.

Weigh - In Monday

Ok, so I admit. I've completely avoided weighing myself for 2 weeks. I was scared. Very scared. I went on a eat-what-I-want-food-binge. Oopsie.

BUT I have been diligent on going to Zumba when I can and also exercising at home on my faithful Wii Fit. (I swear it works.)

I weighed myself this morning and was 192. Yeah! 3.5 more lbs down!

:D That was some much needed encouragement.

Kaelyn  is a natural beauty! We had a TON of fun doing this session. She knows how to work the camera! As expected, here are my faves:

She had been baptized that morning. This is perfect & beautiful!

Ideally, we we're looking for Edward to complete this photo. ;)

A little 13 year old fierceness. :)

"Book" shelves

I took this idea from Carly (who I think borrowed it from someone else, but you'll have to check hers out to see) See, we're recycling? ;)

The concept is using old books to create shelves. "Book" shelves. Hehe. I scored these from the thrift store for $3 and the brackets I bought from Lowes for relatively inexpensive.

Part of the reason I chose these particular books was because I liked the patterned covers.

  •  The brackets were a very bright silver so I painted them to blend into the wall. Someone said you can hang them on the brackets from the top and stack another book on top to hide the brackets.

    Musty stool no more.

I went antique store shopping for the first time awhile back. It seemed like a nice thing to do on a Sunday. There was an overwhelming wealth of items in both the stores I went to and unfortunately most of the stuff I really liked was out of my desirable price range. BUT I did find this musty smelling & stained old stool and the best part was it was only $11.

In a quick & simple "tutorial":

    • Unscrewed the seat from the frame
    • Painted the frame with 2 coats of a gray semi-gloss I had laying around
    • Using an electric staple gun, I covered the stool with some extra fabric I had leftover from reinventing my buffet hutch
    • Screwed the seat back onto the frame (The hubby had to stand on the frame while I screwed because it kept leaving a noticeable gap)
    • O, and as a nice touch, I sprayed the seat before I covered it with some Victoria's Secret spray

Even better, it matches my buffet hutch very well.

      Mommy's little Monkey

Friday was Zeke's 1st birthday.  I am amazed at how quickly he has grown up. I really did always consider that to be some sort of "mom cliche" but I have discovered that when someone says "They grow up so fast" they are actually under exaggerating. While I'm glad that he is growing up, I am also a sad because he's quickly becoming a big boy instead of Mommy's little baby boy. Of course, as he grows up he is developing such a personality and I'm able to start to seeing what qualities he got from each parent. He's a beautiful blend of the both of us. He is just beautiful.

In less sappiness, Zeke & I had a mini road trip to the Knoxville Zoo & ate cupcakes for his birthday. It was a nice day of just me & him and I couldn't have asked for better.

He gets his dorkiness from me.

His favorites were the penguins & monkeys. (Possibly because they we're the ones he could see the best.)

My favorites (of course) we're the elephants.

Even though we didn't get home until about 5:30, no birthday is complete without cake. (or a cupcake in this instance....)

Don't let his quiet smile fool you. About ten minutes later, he was like this:

I couldn't have asked for a better little boy. God has blessed me beyond measure.

Zeke, Mommy & Daddy love you more than we'll ever be able to tell you.

      It's my biiiiiiiirthday.

      I'll admit it:

      I'm a total birthday whore.

I'm always  usually in a good mood but on my birthday I'm in an extra good mood. I also feel the need to tell everyone (including the gas station attendant) that it's my birthday.

I think birthdays are important. No matter how old you are it's important to celebrate the day you we're born. We are all special and everyone make's their impact on the world. Life is always a thing to celebrate.

      Keiths (Easter)

These are Noah's cousins. Well, the mom is his cousin
which makes the girls his second cousins. Emma decided last year that her & I were so alike we we're 'peas in a pod'. :0) We usually take a family session every year so here's the latest & greatest ;)

This is Emma. Emma loooooves taking pictures.
This is Abbey. Abbey is not in loooooove with taking pictures. (Hehe)

We may have had a few silly minutes....

Sometimes I get carried away with being "artsy" with photos but I reaaaaaaaaally liked this old car.

See here we we're talking about boys. Emma won't admit it but she's boy crazy. ;)

Mother's Day & a Big Boy Birthday Party

Happy (belated) Mother's Day to all other Mommie's out there :)

Mother's Day was perfect yesterday and appropriately we had Zeke's 1st birthday party! His actual birthday isn't until this Friday but since Noah is back to work this weekend we decided to have it a little early. :)

Forget picking up the cake with his fingers. He decided to eat almost the entire thing by face planting the plate. We had lots of family & friends show up (about 50!) and it went very well. No Zeke meltdowns (even though we skipped naptime), plenty of food, & a beautiful day. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful family & friends.

I couldn't have imagined a better way to spend Mother's Day.

      Weigh-In Monday

Last week wasn't my best week in regards to what I ate & how much I excercised but I did managed to lose a pound.

Current weight: 195.5 This means I have lost a total of 10 lbs! I started out this blog a few lbs into my weight loss but I am way excited. 10 down ... 40 to go!

It's just a pound but it's something since I've been stuck for the last few weeks. I also started taking my Metformin again with hopes that it will help me out. For those of you who don't know, I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

It's honestly more of a nuisance that a big health issue. It's not diabetes but it is related to my blood insulin levels being too high/not being able to use themselves correctly. This causes a hormone imbalance (low estrogen - high androgens). It creates such wonderful side effects as weight gain (where the majority of mine came from), difficulty losing weight, excessive facial hair, & infertility. I was diagnosed with it during the struggles of us conceiving. It took us a little over 3 years to get pregnant and I was very lucky to have had the Metformin work (and God on my side) because many women end up needing in-vitro, etc.

Anyways, this is where I have some struggles in getting my weight off. It takes a lot of work but I AM going to do it.
