{thankful thursday} #2

Today, I'm thankful for the little things.

A beautiful, warm, sunny day & the fact that God has blessed me with the eyesight to witness such beautiful days. The same eyesight used to enjoy the happy little sunflowers I'm growing on the front porch.

I'm also thankful for all the days of hard work Noah is doing this week so we can continue our quest to become a debt free family.

In fact, I'm thankful for our little family. I love them to pieces.

Growing Up.

Zeke is growing up.

On one hand, I am embracing this more independent stage. He can communicate all of his basic needs, have mini-conversations with Noah & I, and even do some basic care for himself. He understands most of what I say & has began to do more things for himself. (Except walk. He makes me carry him everywhere. 35 lbs of solid toddler mass gets quite uncomfortable after awhile.) He impresses me everyday, though. I woke up @ 7:30 this morning to Zeke having a conversation on my cell phone with my Dad. No joke. He snuck my phone & called my Dad 9 times in 10 minutes. Last week, he walked over & informed me that he "poo" and then brought me diaper wipes. Another day last week, he didn't want to wait for me to get him a drink so he opened the fridge & got the orange juice himself. You get the point....big boy stuff.

On the other hand, I'm sad. As he thins out & grows taller, he's losing a lot of his "baby features". He's less apt to sit down & snuggle or let me rock him for a few minutes. He fights with me all the time. (Haha). He doesn't "need" me as much. He uses sentences now. It's just......where has my baby gone?!

When did this...

 turn into this...

I'm beginning to miss my little baby but I look forward to the adventures I can share with my big kid. I'm really trying to slow down & focus on this phase of his life before it slips away, too.

Speaking of growing up too fast, Nathan turned 6 yesterday. SIX! A first grader as of Monday.

I'm going to be 40 before I know it.

Jewelry Swap

Melissa at The Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife has started a Jewlery Swap for some fun trading between bloggers. The concept is that you find a piece of jewelry under $10 that you don't wear anymore or could part with & send it to a blogger while a different secret blogger sends you their piece. I decided to join in a couple weeks ago because...well, why not?

I received mine the other day from Mariel. I like Mariel.

First, she enclosed a sweet note where she called me pretty. It would be hard not to like her after that.
See? Plus, from the way she writes, I bet she's spunky & happy & fun.

Second reason why I like her...

I mean...come on! This necklace is perfect. I love, love, love it. Seriously, I really love it. I wore it the next day. (I dislike the post office though because even though she wrapped it up they still managed to break it in half but I was able to fix 'er back up.)

Thanks rock!

I will be linking this post up later on with Melissa where you can join in for the next Jewlery Swap.

I've been feeling quite adventurous this summer. Suddenly, I want to canoe and kayak and hike and to jump out of an airplane strapped to some stranger's back who I pray has packed the parachute right.

Try new things...see new places. Yea, motherhood. It's made me a little weird.

A few weeks ago, we tried hiking. In a thunderstorm. Oddly enough, the rain made it all the more exciting.

Me in all my Rambo-ness with my favorite only sister

Among this adventure, we found a side trail that led to a small waterfall. Our main goal was a much larger waterfall later on complete with a jump off the rocks. Note that I do not actually recommend doing this: there have been people who have died doing such; mostly from getting sucked into the waterfall shelf. I do not feel very wise in my choosing to do it. Peer get's us all.

Last week was hot beautiful so we gave canoeing a go. (Question: is "canoeing" actually a word?)

Feel free to hate on my sister a little for having a child & a body that nice. I do. Just a little.

What have you been doing this summer?

Little Storage Footstool.

This *might* be the worst before picture I've ever taken. Talk about not paying any attention...I last minute snapped this while Zeke decided to run naked to the bathtub (hence the sock in floor...)

A good picture wouldn't have done this little thing justice anyways. The underlying fabric really wasn't bad aside from being worn/ripped in a couple spots; the shiny ripped turquoise fabric whoever covered it in was hideous.

After multiple hours, one really bad movie (Melancholia, anyone?), lots of yanked out staples & a potential worry about tetanus...

I paid $3 for the original stool & ended up paying about $15 for the fabric. (I really, really liked this fabric. In fact, I went back and special ordered another half a yard for a delightful chair I got for $1.)

In other projects, our master bedroom is thisclose to being finished. I need to switch out the ceiling fan & find a new quilt.

I got lucky and was able to piece together this little behind to door area from several different thrift store trips. $9 suitcases & a $10 mirror.

You can ignore the mess behind me. Once I clean my room, I'll do a larger post with all the changes. :D

And today, if your left handed like me, Happy National Lefty Day!
